El Nido: A Mediterranean-Inspired House with Masterful Minimal Design

From its unforgettable front facade to its spacious and dynamic interiors, El Nido is a triumph of Mediterranean interior design that makes an impression as soon as you enter through its grand arch door entrance. 

As we shall see, minimal design, high ceilings, along with ABI Interiors’ brushed nickel tapware contribute to the effortless flow of this beautifully spacious Brisbane home.

The timber door entrance is one of the defining points of El Nido, leading to an accommodating study, rumpus, and mudroom as soon as you walk in. 

Walking down the hall, the sight of a large olive tree within an exquisite internal courtyard further reflects the interior design strategy that distinguishes this Mediterranean-inspired house.

The combined kitchen, dining, and living spaces equally impress with their purposefully airy and light ambience. A Taj Mahal Quartzite island benchtop is a focal point of the kitchen, which combines pure oak cabinetry and vintage white kit kat finger tiles — contributing to the minimal and pared-back neutral palette. ABI Interiors’ Elysian Commercial Pull-Out Kitchen Mixer and Zalo Double Kitchen Sink in stainless steel complement the scheme here perfectly. 

As you pass the dining table, the ceiling noticeably steps up four and a half metres over the living area, contributing to the spaciousness. Dark timber book units have been designed specifically on either side of the large wall-mounted TV to help seamlessly balance everything in this high-ceiling living room.

Noticeably, nearly all of the doors in this home are floor-to-ceiling. This minimal design detail makes a considerable impact, enhancing the spacious feel. 

Another cohesive theme is the use of grey square Japanese mosaic feature tiles for the ensuite bathrooms, with ABI Interiors’ Milani Assembly Taps and Spout Set in brushed nickel providing an ideal balance. Linen-press large format tiles add subtle texture to the Elysian Gooseneck Shower Rail Set in an equal tapware finish.  

Laundries are often overlooked spaces; however, this isn’t the case with El Nido. Here, the vintage kit-kat finger tiles from the kitchen return and our timeless Henley Single Fluted Farmhouse Sink makes a triumphant impression in this space. 

Next to this space is a powder room decorated with an intriguing linen-style forest green wallpaper and a grey stone vanity that contributes beautiful texture. Our Gooseneck Hob Swivel Spout and Milani Hand Towel Holder are additional highlights here.

Upstairs, you are introduced to a casual seating area with neutral-toned flooring and a custom arched door that leads to the master bedroom. Autumnal tones highlight the bed and side tables, featuring eye-catching Calacatta violetta marble tops. The colossal bedroom balcony opens up to spectacular waterfront vistas. 

The warm, neutral-toned master ensuite features our indulgent matte white Ukiyo Acrylic Freestanding Bath as the centrepiece but also has the space to accommodate a massive double shower area. A hefty 200kg floating double bathroom stone vanity makes an equally impressive statement with our Milani Assembly Taps and Spout Set again, providing aesthetic compatibility in brushed nickel.

Pocket sliding doors seamlessly open from the kitchen to the outdoor entertainment area. A sizable pizza oven, barbeque, and an arched pool bring together all the elements of this scenic hotel-style space.
