Bathroom Tapware Guide

Selecting tapware for your bathroom is a significant decision that forms the foundation of how the space operates.

bathroom-tapware-guide-hero

Mixers and spouts are crucial elements that require proper consideration so your day-to-day life can function optimally within the style you desire.

It can be overwhelming navigating the many different designs, finishes, and functions of the products on offer. Our bathroom tap guide outlines the key factors to note so you can make the best choice for your home.

When to Consider New Bathroom Tapware

When building or renovating your home

When replacing damaged or inoperable tapware or plumbing

When tailoring to specific physical and accessible needs

When updating your home to increase the resell value

When swapping to more water-efficient fixtures

How to Choose Bathroom Tapware

There are many variables when it comes to which tapware is best for bathrooms. To get you started, here’s a checklist to consider when searching for your fixtures.

- How much space do you have?

- Will you need a swivel function?

- Will it be wall or bench-top mounted?

- Do you require extra functionality?

With these considerations in mind, you can then compare the different types of kitchen taps and their finishes to determine which will work best in your space.

Types of Bathroom Tapware

There are many different types of bathroom taps, coming either as sets or individual components. Bathroom tapware has versatile placement options, with choices such as bench-mounted, wall-mounted, or floor-mounted. There are also taps designed explicitly for outdoor use or accessible needs.

Our main bathroom tapware designs can be used across a multitude of configurations and include our lollipop-style Elysian, the circular Milani, the plus-sign Cross, the linear Barre, the provincial Kingsley, and the textural reeded detailing of Namika.

Assembly Taps

These are the most recognised of tapware arrangements, providing one handle for hot water and another for cold. It gives excellent water control, as each tap can be adjusted for precise pressure and temperature.

Our assembly taps are offered in Milani, Cross, Barre, Kingsley, Namika, and Pixi designs. Pixi allows you to insert a section of your tile into the face of your taps to create a uniquely flush look.

While assembly taps are typically wall-mounted alongside a spout, you can also bench-mount them if you prefer.

- Most designs, as they have a familiar functionality and a wide variety of styles
- Those who prefer wall-mounted fixtures above a basin or bath

Considerations when buying assembly taps:

- That there’s enough wall space to accommodate
- Those with mobility issues may require more streamlined tapware

Summary

Price Range:
$59.90 — $559.70

Pressure and Temperature Control: Yes

Minimal Mixers

Offering a more tidy design, minimal mixers feature one lever to control the water. You move the handle up to increase pressure and side-to-side for temperature.

Our minimal mixers are offered in Elysian, Kingsley, and Namika styles.

These types of bathroom taps are best for:

- Most designs, as they have a straightforward functionality and can be easier for children to operate

Progressive Mixers

Similar to minimal mixers, it features one dial for water temperature and pressure. The difference is you operate the mixer in one right-turn motion to control both.

Turning the mixer will move from cold low-pressure water to cold high-pressure water. At about a half-turn, the mixer will stay at high pressure and begin to warm. As you continue to turn, it will move to hot.

Our progressive mixers are available in the Milani, Cross, and Barre and can be bench or wall-mounted.

Basin Mixers

Instead of buying a separate tap and spout, basin mixers combine the two. The single fixture stands upright, with a linear spout designed to sit over the basin and a minimal mixer handle included in the structure.

Bathroom Spouts

There are two spout configurations to choose from — bench-mounted or wall-mounted, and these can be either static or swivel spouts.

Our bench-mounted spouts are a gooseneck shape, available in swivel or in the static sensor. We also offer bench-mounted hob mixer sets with the same gooseneck spout, however, it is static.

Our static wall-mounted options come as a standard spout, Kingsley, Namika, and sensor; or in gooseneck for a swivel option.
If you need a particularly small spout, browse our Mini Series for wall and bench-mounted options.

If you’re looking for a strong visual impact in your bathroom, a bath filler is a very popular design choice. This floor-mounted fixture features a tall gooseneck spout that feeds water into a freestanding pedestal basin or bath.

Currently, we offer two types of bath fillers: the Elysian features its signature minimal mixer on the product for a comprehensive selection, while our Floor-Mounted Bath Filler requires a separate mixer for design flexibility.

Bathroom Tapware Finishes

Most of our bathroom tapware is made from solid brass and generally undergoes one of three main colouring processes.

Brushed brass, brushed gunmetal, brushed copper, and brushed nickel bathroom tapware are coloured with Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD), the most durable and corrosion-resistant colouring process. Those tapware colours feature a subtle brushed texture with minimal shine — exceedingly popular across various design styles due to their visual interest.

abi-difference-coloursamples

For something more classic and familiar, chrome or matte black bathroom tapware is appealing for the opposite reasons: chrome is high-shine and effortlessly versatile, while matte black is lustreless yet striking. Both are treated with an Advanced Electroplating Application (AEA), resulting in tapware finishes that aid longevity against general wear and tear.

White bathroom tapware is a unique and contemporary choice for bathrooms, bringing airy lightness to any scheme. It’s coloured with our PrimeShield Lacquer Technology (PSLT) and features a slight gloss texture.

Bathroom Tapware Installation & Plumbing Considerations

kitchen-sink-installation-2
When installing or replacing bathroom taps, we recommend hiring a qualified professional to ensure correct installation — especially in circumstances regarding accessible tapware.

If you’re still having trouble deciding what tapware is best suited for you, we recommend asking the advice of a trusted tradesperson or building manager when renovating or beginning a new build. They can give personalised recommendations that will best suit your design and budget.

Remember, selecting bathroom tapware is a very individual choice, so it’s imperative that yours is made in line with the needs of your situation — rather than trends.
