Inside The Block Laundries 2024
With auction day fast approaching, Week 10 marks the Blockheads' last chance to complete the interior of their holiday homes, focusing on their final guest bedroom and laundry. Having just had a much-needed surprise visit from their families, the contestants mustered the energy needed for the final push.
This year, ABI Interiors has proudly partnered with Kinsman, official sponsors of The Block, to supply contestants with high-quality tapware and fixtures for their kitchens and laundries.
House 2’s Courtney and Grant played their Bonus Point Penguin to claim the win for their ‘Moditerranean’ space this week, with Ricky and Haydn just half a point behind them.
Here’s where the teams stood after judging:
- House 2: Courtney and Grant scored 29.5
- House 3: Ricky and Haydn scored 29
- House 4: Kylie and Brad scored 22.5
- House 5: Kristian and Mimi scored 20.5
- House 1: Maddy and Charlotte scored 20
Read on to discover each of The Block laundries in detail and what the judges had to say. Which one is your favourite?
House 1 | Maddy and Charlotte
While the Sydney sisters didn’t quite manage to finish their rooms in time, the judges could still appreciate where their design was heading. Maddy and Charlotte’s coastal laundry shares many of the same elegant finishes as their kitchen — which scored The Block 2024’s first 10.
The white Zellige tile splashback provides a clean, neutral backdrop for our Elysian Commercial Pull-Out Kitchen Mixer in our new AntiquePVD Aurum finish. Merging artisanal craftsmanship with the timeless sophistication of antique, textured brass, this finish adds a pop of warmth to their space.
They selected our Vienna Single Sink, which is mounted within the quartzite stone benchtop, introducing an organic, earthy texture. Kinsman's shaker-style oak cabinetry and antique brass handles complete the design.
However, the decision to include an extra toilet in their laundry meant sacrificing valuable storage space — a fault the judges were quick to point out.
“Storage is so important within a laundry,” said Marty. “It’s one of those rooms that’ll shoot well but inspect terribly.”
House 2 | Courtney and Grant
In line with their home’s ‘Moditerranean’ design style, Courtney and Grant’s laundry creates a warm and inviting atmosphere with its earthy tones and elegant details.
Our brushed brass Seba Single Sink serves as an eye-catching focal point, elevating the aesthetic while complementing the warm tones.
Shaynna had high praise for the couple.
“No one does ‘Moditerranean’ so Courtney and Grumpy have created their own look and their own feel that is unique,” she said.
“It will set trends around the country, just like Steph and Gian.”
The laundry is grounded by Kinsman’s walnut cabinetry, with a porcelain stone benchtop and backsplash tying the entire design together with a timeless, sophisticated feel.
The judges' only point of concern was the position of the washer and dryer underneath the sharp, exposed edge of the angled roof.
House 3 | Ricky and Haydn
Hitting it out of the park this week, Ricky and Haydn’s family-friendly coastal laundry embodies simplicity and elegance through a neutral palette and functional design. Kinsman's crisp white cabinetry and sleek stone benchtop deliver a clean, streamlined aesthetic.
Open coastal oak shelves enhance the light, airy feel, while the stacked washer and dryer maximise storage space. Our brushed copper Elysian Kitchen Mixer, paired with our white granite Vienna Single Sink, adds a touch of warmth and serves as a subtle focal point in this thoughtfully curated coastal-inspired space.
The space blew the judges away.
“Now, this is a laundry!” Marty announced.
“It’s ticking every single box: bench space, functionality, mudroom, washer, dryer, tall cupboard, I mean, the list goes on.”
Shaynna agrees that the space is exactly what’s needed for a holiday home filled with kids. She thinks the laundry sink will be filled more often with ice and drinks than washing.
“Can you imagine the parties they’ll have here because it is the ‘house of fun’, but this is also for an overflow of platters and food,” she said. “This is a buyer’s dream.”
The boys scored a massive 29 out of 30 (including a 10 from Shaynna), which would have been enough for them to win if Courtney and Grant didn’t play their penguin.
House 4 | Kylie and Brad
Kylie and Brad’s laundry seamlessly extends the aesthetic of their all-black kitchen. The same Dekton benchtop flows into this space, complemented by Kinsman's matte black cabinetry and dark, fluted timber accents. The laundry offers ample bench space and plenty of storage, with the convenient addition of a robot cleaner on standby.
Hidden within the cabinetry is the Miele washer and dryer, a decision Shaynna was not a fan of.
“I would take these off. Like, come on, horrible,” she exclaimed. “They’ve got four kids. They know how a laundry should be functioning.”
Marty is still surprised by Kylie and Brad’s colour choices, saying it shows they’re not taking on the judges’ feedback like other contestants have.
“They never won a room on a black-and-white theme, and yet they’re coming back to black-and-white themes after winning rooms,” he said.
“Why are they doing this? The obsession with black-and-white has to end.”
House 5 | Kristian and Mimi
Kristian and Mimi's laundry exudes a minimalist, modern-contemporary design. The judges admired the harmony between the Kinsman’s walnut cabinetry, stone surfaces, and brushed copper accents. The couple included our brushed copper Elysian Pull-Out Commercial Kitchen Mixer and Seba Single Sink, creating a striking yet functional modern laundry.
"I didn't even know I wanted green laundry appliances before today, but now I do,” said Darren, taking in the luxurious matte finish of their washer, dryer, and clothes steamer.
“It’s beautifully finished, the colour scheme is gorgeous, and the appliances are amazing, so it’s tick, tick, tick, tick.”
“Huge amount of bench space, great hanging, and access to outside,” Marty agreed.
“This is the laundry of the day.”
